Paraguay

Paraguay is a landlocked country in the heart of South America, offering travelers a very different experience from its more famous neighbors, with a strong Guaraní cultural identity and relatively few international tourists. The east of the country around Ciudad del Este is particularly interesting for its dramatic waterfalls, the enormous Itaipu Dam and the Atlantic Forest, while the capital Asunción offers colonial heritage, lively markets and a more relaxed urban atmosphere. For a short visit, Paraguay works especially well as an off-the-beaten-path addition to a trip through southern Brazil and Argentina.
